Leonard Heyman is a Registered U.S. Patent Attorney with admissions to the New York and Connecticut Bars. Leonard’s career began with a successful tenure as a Primary Examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office working in various mechanical and engine control systems fields including open flame burners, internal combustion engine exhaust gas treatment and control, thermal-mechanical power plants and actuators, and illumination.
After law school, he then joined several boutique patent law firms drafting and prosecuting patent applications for individuals, small businesses, and multinational Fortune 500 corporations in diverse technology spaces including automotive suspension and steering, power and thermal control systems, system level software, silicon and circuit board design and manufacture, and microprocessor architecture (to name a few) before joining software giant VMware Inc. as in-house counsel. Leonard stayed at VMware for 16 years before it was acquired in 2023. At VMware, Leonard spearheaded patent portfolio development in cutting-edge sectors such as virtual desktop infrastructure, software-defined networking, and cloud-native application lifecycle management. Leonard’s expertise encompasses strategic patent drafting and prosecution, analysis, licensing, portfolio development, and pre-litigation analysis and litigation support, and is committed to strategic innovation management and creative problem-solving.
